MORTIFIED: The Age shamed over placement of Dame Elisabeth Murdoch pic in Death Notices

dameelisabethDame Elisabeth Murdoch is over a hundred years young and seems highly likely to clock up whatever the maximum possible age might be. Discussing such things is not normally considered polite but is prompted by today’s latest gaffe from Melbourne’s terminal newspaper The Age in their death notice section.

They took an advertisement from the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute which contained a picture of their supporter Dame Elisabeth encouraging people to attend a fundraiser at her home in Cruden Farm and much to the horror of the Institute and embarrassment of The Age hierarchy, some genius decided to place it among the death notices in a format that suggested it was in fact a death notice for the great philanthropist.

How very unfortunate. We can confirm that Dame Elisabeth is alive and well despite ad placements to the contrary.

We suspect she will long outlive the print edition of The Age newspaper which according to internal speculation is unlikely to last the decade at its current rate of decline.

Also mortifying was the paper’s insistence that it put creepy inverted commas around the seemingly irrefutable suggestion that kids were “saved” by a recent bust of a network of pedophiles.
