A visiting Irish Republican convicted terrorist Martin Ferris was made to feel at home yesterday in Perth in the Western Australian Parliament enjoying a slap-up luncheon with Labor rat turned Nats MP Vince Catania, CFMEU stand-over man turned millionaire Kevin Reynolds and former state minister and one-time Labor leadership aspirant Alannah MacTiernan.
A nice roast meal is a big change of pace for the former explosives and weapons smuggler Ferris who was busted by the Irish navy with a ship full of stuff that goes bang, as Wikipedia explains:
Ferris served ten years (1984-1994) in prison for his involvement in the attempted importation of arms from the United States. In September 1984, the fishing vessel Valhalla, sailed from Boston, while the trawler Marita Ann, sailed from Fenit, County Kerry. In the mid-Atlantic, seven tons of explosives, arms and ammunition were transferred from the Valhalla to the Marita Ann. Sometime afterwards, the Irish Navy vessels LÉ Emer and LÉ Aisling along with members of the Garda Síochána detained the Marita Ann and arrested its crew. Ferris was convicted for the possession of explosive substances for unlawful purpose and for possession of firearms and ammunition with intent to endanger life.
It is not known how a bloke like that gets a visa to visit Australia. Hopefully his luggage was thoroughly checked for impactful items.
