The state MP is the subject of allegations that cannot be published for legal reasons.
Tilley’s supporters fear that his factional foe party leader Ted Baillieu will swoop at the next meeting of the party’s Admin Committee to remove his preselection.
They tell VEXNEWS this is an over-reaction given the publication ban and that nothing has been proven against Tilley, a highly respected former Police officer.
Tilley’s backers are hopeful the allegations could be withdrawn but insist that he should be able to continue to serve regardless.
Liberal sources say claims of the kind made against Tilley are commonplace throughout the party and that an airing of these relating to Ted Baillieu’s most senior supporters could occur as retaliation for what could be seen as a Baillieu factional strike against his Kroger-aligned opponents.
