Police Media chief fiasco #2. First it was Stephen Linnell, VicPol’s ex media tsar turned senior Star News Group editorial manager, who pleaded guilty to perjury and other crimes. Now it’s his friend Queensland Police’s ex media director Kevin Loomes who has been admitted to two counts of performing an indecent act.
By curious coincidence, it appears that Loomes once worked under Stephen Linnell, as his Deputy Media Director at Victoria Police before moving to Queensland to commence a strange double life of public masturbation and employment with law enforcement.
The former Victorian Loomes created this rather lurid scenario that puts Linnell’s own crimes of dishonesty into perspective:
Loomes entered a backpacker’s hostel on Ann Street in Brisbane’s CBD last December, carrying a towel, the court was told. The married man proceeded to a shower block on level one and began chatting to a 22-year-old backpacker before taking his towel off and masturbating in front of the traveller, police prosecutor Carrie Davidson said.
The backpacker quickly left the area and Loomes went to another shower block on a different floor where he started chatting to a second 22-year-old backpacker.
Standing in front of the traveller with one hand on his hip and the other on his penis, Loomes asked: “Has this ever happened to you before?” (VEXNEWS: Probably not we’d suggest)
The two backpackers told the hostel’s managers, who held Loomes until police arrived, Ms Davidson said.
By the time of publication, Star News Group failed to respond to our inquiry about whether they’d offer Mr Loomes employment as they had with Mr Linnell.
The court heard that the sex offender would be returning to Melbourne, where no doubt Queensland courts would love to send all pervs if they could.
